Sacred Choral Music
“The musical tradition of the Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.” Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 112
For most of the year, the choirs of St. James sing with the assembled congregation at three Sunday masses. The eight choirs of the Cathedral, outstanding guest choirs and the Cathedral's four Resident Ensembles work together to “preserve and foster with great care” the priceless riches of the treasury of sacred music. In addition to the liturgical choral works sung at the Sunday masses, St. James Cathedral has invited a number of the region's most prominent musical ensembles to celebrate the treasury of sacred choral works with the Cathedral this year.
“The treasure of sacred music is to be preserved and fostered with great care. Choirs must be diligently developed, especially in cathedral churches.” Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 114
